THE BUILD STORY / MAXWELL TOMS

Behind
Walter.

An idea made tangible.

Independent project · Interactive prototype

CHARACTER → SOFTWARE → PRESENCE

What if AI had a place
beside your work?

Walter explores that question through an expressive character, a working interface, and a proposed physical body. The room lets you experience those pieces together.

I’m Maxwell Toms, an AI product builder and creative technologist. I shape the idea, direct the experience, and build and integrate the software with AI-assisted development.

FROM INTENT TO INTERACTION

Different pieces.
One coherent experience.

The original visual reference for Walter’s astronaut-like head, with circular displays and ear speakers.
01 / THE REFERENCE

A recognizable presence.

The starting reference established the smooth helmet shape, circular face, and ear speakers. It is visual direction, not a photograph of a finished device.

Walter’s actual 3D enclosure study pulled apart, revealing its shell, rack, and electronics reference geometry.
02 / THE BODY STUDY

Look beneath the shell.

The interactive assembly exposes the proposed internal layout and service access. Real hardware reference geometry informs the study; physical fit, wiring, power, and cooling still need validation.

A capture of the original WalterOS Hub, including its music library and Music, Motion, Games, and Apps controls.
03 / THE WORKING INTERFACE

Use the original WalterOS.

The room embeds the actual frontend, with local music and character performances. Its public browser mode is isolated from private device state and live AI services.

PRODUCT JUDGMENT, IN PRACTICE

The work behind
the feeling.

01

Make the device usable inside the world.

Walter and the laptop use embedded interfaces instead of decorative screens. Device interaction takes control of input, then gives the camera back when you leave.

02

Keep the personality. Remove the friction.

A narrated visit and independent exploration share the same room. Phone framing, touch controls, restrained captions, and a physical page-turning notebook make the world easier to use.

03

Refine within real constraints.

Rendering quality adapts to a bounded pixel budget. Media loads on demand. Automated checks cover camera motion, device lifecycle, page geometry, and playback; browser review checks the visible experience.

OWNERSHIP & SCOPE

My direction.
A collaborative toolkit.

I direct Walter’s character and product experience, shape the interface and enclosure concept, and guide implementation, integration, and iteration with AI tools.

What makes this possible

The browser world uses Three.js, the original React frontend, authored media, and credited third-party environment assets and materials. AI assists code and creative production.

What this demonstrates

Creative direction, interactive prototyping, software integration, and iterative quality review. The room is a digital prototype; it does not certify a manufactured product or validated thermal behavior.
